ROBBED!!!

Wow, have you EVER seen a finish to a game like that...???

So Ghana is out, Africa is out, and all thanks to the handy work of one Diego Suarez. To say England were robbed by a ball being judged to be the other side of the line is nothing in comparison to Ghana’s exit to the world cup to Uruguay last night, in what was one of the most shameful moments in World Cup history.

As you can imagine, the whole of Ghana (and Africa...and England, apparently), were totally hyped about Ghana’s appearance in the world cup quarter finals. The familiar blare of vuvuzelas tore through the streets of Accra as crowds gathered in various drinking spots and houses around the country. The general prediction, a win for the black stars to take them through to the semi finals as the first African team ever to do so. After a 15 minute goal celebration erupted from Muntari’s opening goal just before half time, an equaliser from Uruguay was followed by a deliberate handball in the dying seconds of extra time to deny Ghana the winning goal. As has happened for every penalty Ghana has been awarded in the tournament, the celebrations started even before the kick was taken, music blaring out as if it was in the bag...but it wasn’t to be. Those pesky Uruguayans!!!

Devastated is an understatement. Ghanaian funerals are known for their pumping music and party atmosphere, but what would’ve been the biggest celebration party imaginable turned into what felt more like the the traditional English funeral. The streets, which should’ve been filled with people, cars and parties were left with shocked fans making their long, sorrowful journey home. Absolutely gutted.

Still, the team can be very proud with what they achieved, and the parties they provided around Africa with all of their wins beforehand. With no Michael Essien and a team of young players, many of whom are fresh from winning the under-20 world cup last year, the Black Stars are definitely on the rise. Four years time...who knows
