So here are a few pics from our very brief time in The Gambia... apologies for the delay, have had a bit of trouble uploading. There wasn’t a great deal going on in The Gambia while we were there, but to bring the stories to life a little....above is Serekunda market by day and, below, by dusk...underneath, the town of Tanjil gather on the beach for the day's catch and, of course, one of the many unsuccessful attempts at getting onto the rammed ferry from Banjul to Barra, en route to Dakar.
And then there's Kofi’s personal favourite; the children of Tanjil with their catch of the day - a football they duped me into buying them. Kofi took great pleasure in seeing exactly what was coming, as I was surrounded by a bunch of Gambian children - holding my hands for about `10 minutes, asking me questions, showing me love, making me feel SPECIAL because I’m the only white person on the beach. When they asked if I’d buy them a football, of course I said yes – we had bonded on a deep level. So I bought them the damn football, they HUMOURED me with “take a photo of us with the ball”, then just as I was thinking I’d be having a nice little kickabout with these sweet little Gambian kids feeling all good about myself, they ALL dust straight off without saying goodbye or thank you or anything. It genuinely hurt. Look at them, with their smug little faces. I felt so....USED
;-)
Anyway, some much better pictures of Dakar so far (with the default camera setting of date imprint removed), all to follow with the next blog, hopefully at or after the weekend.....PEACE!
Richard Goddard and Kofi Debrah, two events organisers from London going under their company name of Beating Tracks, had the interesting idea of setting up a music festival in Ghana. After months of research in the UK, it came to their pleasant surprise that this could actually work.....so they set off to Ghana to give it a go. This blog documents their time in Ghana as they take inspiration from everything around them and build towards the festival dream.
